Frühstückspension Meyer, Familie Orthacker Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Frühstückspension Meyer, Familie Orthacker, you immediately get that warm, family-run vibe that’s honestly hard to find these days. The Orthacker family has been welcoming guests here for years, and it shows — there’s this genuine hospitality that feels refreshingly authentic. Located on Kärntner Straße in Graz, the pension sits in a quiet residential area that feels properly Austrian without being touristy. You know what struck me most? The fact that you can actually park your car right on-site without worrying about finding a spot or paying those ridiculous city parking fees.
Location & Getting Around
This three-star pension really nails the location game — couples consistently rate it 8.4, and I can see why. You’re close enough to Graz’s historic center to easily explore, but far enough out to avoid the noise and chaos. The tram connections are solid, so getting into the Altstadt takes maybe 15-20 minutes. What I really appreciated was how the neighborhood feels like actual Graz — you’ve got local bakeries, small shops, and that lived-in atmosphere that gives you a real sense of the city. It’s the kind of spot where you can take evening walks and actually see how locals live.
The Room Experience
The rooms here are exactly what you’d expect from a well-run Austrian pension — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged. Nothing fancy, but everything works perfectly and feels genuinely cared for. The Familie Orthacker clearly takes pride in maintaining their property, and it shows in those small details that matter. You’ll find proper Austrian linens, decent storage space, and windows that actually open (something I always appreciate). The room I stayed in had this nice view of the surrounding residential area, which was surprisingly peaceful.
Breakfast & Morning Routine
Now, the “Frühstückspension” part of the name isn’t just for show — they take breakfast seriously here. We’re talking proper Austrian breakfast with fresh bread, local cheeses, cold cuts, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it came from a machine. The Familie Orthacker serves it in a cozy dining area that feels more like eating at someone’s home than a hotel. I mean, you can actually have a conversation with other guests without feeling rushed. The timing is flexible too — they understand that not everyone wants to eat at 7 AM sharp.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
Honestly, places like this are becoming rare — a family-run pension where the owners actually care about your experience. The 8.4 rating makes perfect sense when you consider the combination of genuine hospitality, practical amenities like free on-site parking, and that sweet spot location. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, which is refreshing. You get excellent value for money, real local insights from the Orthacker family, and the kind of stay that reminds you why you travel in the first place. For couples especially, it offers that perfect balance of romance and authenticity that chain hotels just can’t match.

Easy to collect keys and good size of room. Some parking out front (but extra round the back if required). Access to Graz centre very easy by bus – every 10 minutes from nearby bus stop and journey takes 20 min to central location.
Gasthof doesn't do evening meals but next door carry out pizza v. good (otherwise eat in town).
Eggenberg Palace and Landeszeughaus (old armoury) well worth a visit. Funicular to castle and views from castle v good. All of these plus transport from Gasthof and around centre included in Graz Card.Klaus from United States (9/10)

The woman running the place was exceptionally friendly, helpful, accommodating. She even let me put my food in their refrigerator. She gave me hot water for my tea and wanted to make sure we were comfortable. Super cheerful.
