Appartement Steinbichler Overview
First Impressions
Appartement Steinbichler sits quietly on Gaisbergweg in the Eggenberg district, and honestly, I almost walked past it at first — it’s tucked into a residential street that feels more like a neighborhood than a tourist zone. The building itself is unpretentious, which I actually appreciated after seeing so many over-designed places in Graz. What struck me immediately was how peaceful everything felt here, despite being just a short tram ride from the city center. The entrance is straightforward, no fancy lobby drama, just clean lines and that distinctly Austrian attention to practical details.
Location & Neighborhood
Eggenberg is one of those areas that locals know but tourists often miss — and that’s exactly what makes it special. You’re living among actual Graz residents here, not other travelers, which gives you a completely different feel for the city. The Eggenberg Palace is literally a ten-minute walk away, and I mean, how often do you get to have a UNESCO World Heritage site as your neighborhood landmark? The tram connection into the old town is reliable and frequent, though I found myself walking more than expected because the route along the Mur River is genuinely pleasant. There’s a small grocery store about five minutes away, plus a few local cafes where you’ll hear more German than English.
The Apartment Experience
This three-star place operates more like a well-run apartment setup than a traditional hotel, which means you get your own space without the constant buzz of other guests. The room I stayed in felt lived-in rather than sterile — good quality furniture that’s clearly been chosen for comfort, not just looks. The kitchen setup is actually functional, not just decorative like some places, with a proper stovetop and enough counter space to prepare real meals. I particularly liked the windows — they’re larger than you’d expect and let in plenty of natural light throughout the day.
Practical Comforts
The Wi-Fi works reliably throughout the space, which isn’t always a given in these older buildings. Parking is available, and in a city where finding a spot can be genuinely frustrating, that’s worth mentioning. The heating system is efficient — important during Graz’s cooler months when you really want to feel warm when you come back from exploring. Housekeeping is thorough without being intrusive, and they seem to understand that people staying in apartments want a bit more privacy than typical hotel guests. The shower pressure is solid, and the hot water doesn’t run out unexpectedly.
Why Couples Choose This Place
I can see why this spot gets high marks from couples — there’s something inherently romantic about having your own little corner of Graz rather than just another hotel room. The quiet neighborhood means you can actually have conversations without competing with street noise, and the apartment setup lets you create your own rhythm instead of following hotel schedules. You can pick up fresh bread from the local bakery and have coffee together by those big windows, or cook dinner and open a bottle of Austrian wine without worrying about disturbing anyone. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re temporarily living in Graz rather than just visiting it.

Ciprian from Romania (8/10)
A fantastic family pension, clean and lighty, located in the green and quiet part of the city, 15 minutes away from the Eggenberg Palace (by foot) and 25-30 minutes from the city center (by tram).
People were extremly helpful, the food was fresh and tasty.
When we arrived, it was snow flakes were floating everywhere, on the steet, over the houses around and it was a fairy tale atmosphere!
The only thing I regret about our stay is the fact that it wasn't longer!Marc from France (6/10)
The breakfast, charged extra at 15 Euro pp and is prepared with special care by a lady who is extremely nice. We appreciated this personal touch, a good start into the day. Another plus is the sunrise over Graz (if you have a room with that orientation), there also is a simple restaurant in the building in case you want to eat in.
